School Year Program

During the week, our students participate in choir, music theory, ensembles, lessons, and Healthy and Whole, a social and emotional learning program. Students learn from qualified instructors on their instrument and engage with mentors in group settings. Each student is placed in the appropriate level ensemble according to their technical ability.

KIC students perform in several free to the public concerts throughout the year featuring both singing and playing.

KIC also takes our older students on a college tour. For many of our students, it is their first experience visiting a school and learning about college as a next step. KIC provides assistance with the financial aid and application process.

KIC currently is meeting at the West Sound Academy campus in Poulsbo. If your child is interested in joining KIC, please contact us at [email protected].

Programmatic Goals

Goal-Directed Skills: Learning to play an instrument requires discipline and dedication. KIC provides benchmarks so teachers and students know when kids are ready to move to the next level. All children move at their own pace.

Academic Motivation: 20% of KIC students are on an Individualized Education Plan (IEP). KIC staff and mentors work with children and families to help kids achieve their academic and personal goals. KIC provides mentors to assist with homework and reading literacy. Research shows that music education helps to build literacy and math skills.

Musical Knowledge: KIC students learn to play an instrument in small groups and larger ensembles, as well as through optional private lessons. They demonstrate their ability in free community concerts throughout the school year.

Our Schedule

KIC follows the public school calendar and meets four days per week- Monday, Thursday, and Friday from 4:00-5:30, and Wednesday from 3:00-5:00.
